BIG BREAKING: After receiving a report by a committee constituted for this purpose, the government is likely to take a decision on revising the minimum age of marriage for girls.
Addressing a video conference after Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a commemorative coin of Rs 75 on the 75th anniversary of food and agriculture, he said, “To decide what the ideal age of marriage should be for daughters, one Important deliberation is underway. ” Organization (FAO).
The Prime Minister said that she has received letters from women across the country asking about the committee’s report and when the government will take a decision about it.
“I want to assure them that the government will take its decision soon after presenting the report,” Modi said.
In his Independence Day speech, the Prime Minister had announced that the government was considering what the minimum age of marriage should be for women and constituted a committee to look into the matter.
Currently, the minimum age of marriage is 18 years for women and 21 years for men.
Experts suggest that the minimum age of girls to be married should be increased to 21 as it is not the right time for an 18-year-old girl to get married and have children.
