Former Australian cricketer David Hussey, who is currently in India for the Indian Premier League 2021 has admitted that there are a few of his countrymen in the competition who are a bit nervous around the prospect of going back to their nation. Hussey is the chief mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders team.
The opinion of the younger Hussey brother came after Andrew Tye of Rajasthan Royals decided to leave the IPL and go back home citing personal reasons. Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson also have taken the same decision. The two RCB players left for their country as the franchise said that they were going to respect the decision of the two Aussies.
Hussey said that he believes there are a few Aussies in the IPL 2021 who are a little nervous about getting back to their country. “Everyone is sort of a bit nervous about whether they can get back into Australia. I dare say there will be a few other Australians a bit nervous about getting back into Australia,” Hussey told the Sydney Morning Herald.
It’s on the news every minute of the day says David Hussey on the current COVID-19 situation
The former cricketer further said that all the players have been seeing the news about the rising cases of COVID-19 and how it is affecting everyone. He also said that they feel lucky that they are able to play the game and entertain people. Along with Hussey, the KKR team also has Pat Cummins, another Australian. On top of that, David’s elder brother, Michael Hussey has also been involved in the league as the batting consultant to the Chennai Super Kings.
“It is on the radar. It’s on the news every minute of the day. You see people in hospital beds. It puts a lot of things in perspective. We actually discussed after the game last night, how lucky we are to play the game and try to entertain people around the world,” said Hussey.
Hussey also said that there are people who want the tournament to go on and are determined and optimistic that everything will turn out well. “Everyone’s pretty nervous about what’s going on over here, but they’re also pragmatic,” Hussey said. KKR is currently in Ahmedabad, where they will play their next four matches, before ending the league stages in Bengaluru.
