Sanjay Bangar, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batting consultant, said that Harshal Patel would take the final over against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in his stride and come back stronger in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). On Sunday at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, he went for 37 runs in his final over, which also happened to be the last over of CSK’s innings.
Even as Ravindra Jadeja hit him for 36 runs, he also bowled a no-ball in the same over. After his first three overs, Harshal gave away only 14 runs and picked up the wickets of Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu. However, the last over changed his economy rate from 4.67 to 12.75.
“He’ll learn from it, and he is somebody who is very hard on himself. He will obviously assess as to what were his plans which went wrong and whether he could have done something different,” Bangar was quoted as saying in the virtual press conference.
Harshal Patel has been a standout performer for us: Bangar
Despite facing the assault, Harshal remains the Purple Cap holder in the tournament with 15 scalps from five games. Due to the single over, his economy rate, which was 6.84 prior to the game against MS Dhoni and Co, went up to 8.35. Bangar had Patel’s back saying that it was the speedster, who helped the Challengers gain the ascendancy in the middle overs.
“Harshal has been a standout performer for us because if you see he is already the Purple Cap holder and he has actually put us in this position because he was instrumental in a lot of wins for RCB, especially in the first four games. Obviously, he had a bad day, but don’t forget, even in the middle overs, he is the one who brought us back into the game,” he added.
On April 25, Virat Kohli’s men tasted their maiden defeat of the tournament, going down by 69 runs. After the Super Kings posted 191 on the board, Devdutt Padikkal set the platform with a 15-ball 34, but after Shardul Thakur dismissed him, RCB’s innings went downhill and they ended on 122 for nine in their 20 overs.
