Wriddhiman Saha, the veteran Indian cricketer, was recently tested positive for COVID-19. The development came to the fore before the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s match against the Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, May 4. On the same day, the Board of Control for Cricket in India took the decision of postponing the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League for an indefinite time period.

Saha was a part of the Sunrisers, who kept languishing at the bottom of the points table with only one victory. He has been a part of the Orange Army for quite a few years but has had to warm the benches due to the presence of Jonny Bairstow. In the meantime, after he contracted the virus, wishes flowed in from the cricket fraternity for the Bengal wicketkeeper.

However, it was the wish from his daughter that made his day. Her daughter shared a drawing where Saha, in the form of Superman, was fighting against coronavirus with all his might.

Saha captioned the picture and wrote, “This means the world to me right now. Mia sending her wishes…And I thank all of you for your well wishes and messages. My gratitude for you all.”

Earlier, it was learned that the entire Sunrisers team had gone into isolation. “He had a fever and had been in isolation for the past five days. We are also being asked to stay in the room,” a source had mentioned.

Previously, Delhi Capitals’ Amit Mishra, and Kolkata Knight Riders’ Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakravarthy among cricketers also tested positive for COVID-19. Chennai Super Kings’ batting coach Michael Hussey and their bowling coach Laxmipathy Balaji couldn’t evade the wrath of the virus either.

For the time being, the BCCI is scratching their heads over organising flights for the return of foreign cricketers. The fact that there are travel restrictions to and from India hasn’t made things easier by any means.

Pat Cummins, the KKR pacer, said that he and the Aussie contingent in the IPL 2021 is a tad ‘anxious’ after the recent developments. In the meantime, the BCCI is looking for a window in September to finish the remainder of the IPL.
