So, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had no option but to postpone the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier (both from Kolkata Knight Riders), Amit Mishra (Delhi Capitals), and Wridhimann Saha (Sunrisers Hyderabad) were affected with Covid-19, and the BCCI decided that it was the last straw and suspended the IPL.

And now, the President of the BCCI, Sourav Ganguly has opened up on the suspension of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ganguly stated that the BCCI had got a report which stated that there was no breach of the bio bubble.

The BCCI President even added that it was very difficult to determine how Covid-19 entered the bio bubble and concluded by stating that it is also difficult to determine how many people in the country have been infected with the coronavirus.

“The report we got is that there’s no breach of the bubble. How it happened is very difficult to say. How so many people are getting (infected) in the country is also very difficult to say,” said Ganguly in a chat with The Indian Express.

The BCCI is mulling to host the remaining IPL matches in September

And now, the BCCI is looking to conduct the remaining matches of the 14th IPL edition during the month of September this year. At the time of suspension, the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) side is occupying the top place in the IPL points table.

The Delhi side has won 6 out of the 8 matches that they have played in IPL 2021. The 2nd and 3rd places in the points table are occupied by the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side and the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side. Both CSK and RCB have won 5 out of the 7 matches that they have played in the tournament at the time of suspension.

Shikhar Dhawan is the current holder of the Orange Cap, while Harshal Patel is the owner of the Purple Cap at the time of suspension. Only 29 out of the 60 matches in IPL 2021 have been completed thus far.
