The fourteenth season of the Indian Premier League has been postponed for an indefinite period after multiple cases of COVID-19 were reported among the teams. Out of the 60 matches which were slated for the season, 29 were completed till the stoppage of the league. There were many incredible performances during the first half of the IPL which left a mark.
Till the halfway stage, the three teams Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore looked in great form. There were many individuals as well who impressed with their brilliant show in the league. And amongst some shocking decisions was the sacking of David Warner as SRH captain midway through the tournament after a disappointing performance by the team.
Let’s look at the key numbers and records from the matches held in IPL 2021 so far:
6 – Prithvi Shaw smashed six fours in an over against Shivam Mavi in the IPL game against KKR. He became the first player to hit 6 fours in the first over of IPL.
36 – Ravindra Jadeja smashed 36 runs in an over against Harshal Patel in the clash against RCB. This was the record for the joint-most runs scored by a batsman in an over of IPL.
119 – In the very first game as a captain of Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson smacked 119 runs off 63 balls against PBKS. He thus became the first player to hit an IPL century on captaincy debut.
4 – Nicholas Pooran was quite unlucky in IPL 2021 as he registered 4 ducks this season. This is the record for joint-most ducks for a player in an IPL season.
5000 – Shikhar Dhawan continued his brilliant form from the last season, and played some brilliant knocks this year. Meanwhile, he also became the first player to complete 5000 IPL runs as an opener.
2 – The tied game between SRH and DC saw Rashid Khan and Axar Patel bowling in the Super Over for their respective teams. This was the first instance of spinners bowling the Super Over for both sides.
1 – In the inaugural game of the season, Harshal Patel took 5 wickets against Mumbai Indians. He became the first player to pick a fifer against MI in IPL.
200 – MS Dhoni became the first player during this season to play 200 T20 matches as a captain of the same team. He has been leading the CSK side since the first season in 2008.
200 – RCB and DC became the second and the third team respectively to complete 200 IPL matches after MI.
6000 – RCB captain Virat Kohli completed 6000 runs in IPL and became the first player to reach the landmark.
4000 – Rohit Sharma also achieved a big milestone this year as he completed 4000 T20 runs as a captain, and became the fourth Indian to do so.
200 – This season saw many of the IPL players completing a double century of sixes in the tournament. This includes Suresh Raina, Kieron Pollard and David Warner. Apart from this, Chris Gayle became the first player to complete 350 sixes in IPL.
72 – Rohit Sharma surpassed Gautam Gambhir in terms of most wins as a captain in IPL with 72 wins to his name in comparison to Gambhir’s 71 victories. MS Dhoni is at the top spot with 115 wins as an IPL captain.
50 – David Warner completed 50 half-centuries in IPL, and was the first-ever player to reach the landmark.
150 – MS Dhoni achieved a big milestone in terms of wicketkeeping as he became the first player to complete 150 dismissals behind the wicket.
5577 – In the all-time top run-getters in IPL, Shikhar Dhawan (5577) has reached the second spot surpassing Suresh Raina (5491). This is the first time Dhawan has crossed Raina in the runs tally.
